More Gujaratis want to bell the CAT
AHMEDABAD: Once again hoping that no ‘pagal guy’ will let the CAT loose, a whopping 2.4 lakh candidates will appear for Common Admission Test (CAT) to seek admissions to country’s premier management institutes, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
This year, the number of students appearing for CAT is 49,000 more than last year and highest ever.

The number of candidates from Gujarat has also gone up from around 6,300 in 2006 to nearly 7,600 in 2007. There are 11 centres in the city where CAT can be taken.
Majority of those who would be taking CAT are engineering students.
Academicians and experts attribute this rise to increasing aspiration levels and awareness about second league of management schools.
Biswaroop Padhi, the centre head of IMS Learning Resources, says, "The aspirations of the student community has gone up to an extent that more and more students want to explore newer academic avenues."
CAT 2007 will be conducted at 23 centres across India of which four, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Jaipur and Nagpur, are taken care of by IIM-A.
But experts believe though the students have become aware of the options and institutes for management studies, parents still lack that kind of awareness.
